Course Objectives: 
This course provides an overview of theories of first language acquisition and second language acquisition and some of the issues central to the second/foreign acquisition process.
Course Content: 

The purpose of this course is to make students familiar with the theories of first and second language development (behaviorism, innateness, information processing, connectionist models, and interactional approach). The focus of this course will be on developmental stages in mother tongue acquisition and in second language learning, learner’s characteristics and individual differences influencing success in second language learning (e.g., influence of personality, language aptitude, intelligence, age of acquisition, motivation, and attitude, learning preferences and beliefs), and contextual differences between first language acquisition and second language acquisition (e.g., natural and formal learning environments).
