Course Objectives:
This course aims to examine diverse meanings attributed to education in different socio-cultural contexts from a comparative perspective on the basis of significant empirical research underlying theoretical discussions. We will try to shed light on the connections between education, schooling, and learning on the one hand, and cultural codes and patterns on the other. Secondly the course aims to gaining insight into innovative approaches in educational anthropology.
Course Content:
This course focus on debates about education in Turkey, with particular reference to the relationships between social class, family history, Turkish modernization and gender, and education. Discussing a number of studies on education in Turkey, we will dwell on biographies and autobiographies of Turkish men and women who received education in different periods of time, different schools. |
