Course Objectives: 
The purpose of this course is to help students improve their academic reading and writing skills to function effectively in academic settings. They will be able to write different academic text formats (paragraph development and essays). In addition, students will be able to engage with, understand and analyze reading content in various formats and genres. The focus of this course will be on paragraph structure, APA7, and essay writing in different text types (description, process, opinion, and argumentative). Students will also work on writing summaries and paraphrases. At the end of the 14th week, you will have: Enhanced your academic reading & writing skills. Gained the capacity to create an effective thesis statement, as well as well-structured introductions, body paragraphs, and conclusions. Acquired the skills to utilize different stylistic patterns and writing techniques, tailored to both academic contexts and narrative-driven tasks. Learned to use the APA system of documentation accurately, including citing sources from both academic texts and in-game materials. Developed the ability to avoid plagiarism by understanding the importance of original thought and proper citation practices. Cultivated fluency in writing through regular practice, revisions, and peer feedback.
Course Content: 

Over the next 14 weeks, we will:

  • Learn a lot about the reading and writing process. Writing is a process, and we will spend time -a lot of time- reading, thinking, drafting, and revising. 
  • Spend a lot of time communicating our thoughts to each other. We will work as revisers for each other, and we will help each other become better readers & writers.
