A Journey from a Voluntary Study to a Faculty-School Collaboration Model

The faculty members of Mathematics Education Department and preservice mathematics teachers had been conducting Mathematics Workshops in Celal Yardimci Middle School since 2011. The workshops were restructured in 2014 to enable preservice teachers to work with a group of middle school students throughout an academic year under the monitoring of faculty members and mathematics teachers of the school. Between 2016 and 2018 a TUBITAK funded project (No:215K049) had been carried out by Dr. Hulya Kilic and Dr. Oguzhan Dogan to establish a Faculty-School Collaboration Model to provide opportunities for preservice mathematics teachers to make more practice in schools besides their compulsory field experiences. The finding of these studies revealed that the collaboration model contributed to preservice mathematics teachers’ professional knowledge and skills, specifically their pedagogical content knowledge and noticing skills. The findings were disseminated in the form of journal articles (4), book chapter (1), conference proposals (20) and workshops (3). Recently, 1 book chapter and 2 articles are under review for publication.
