Course Objectives: 
This course studies language in its sociocultural context, investigating how social and cultural factors influence language, language use, and language learning and teaching. The main goal is to familiarise students with the main issues of sociolinguistics and show their application in language and education. The last weeks of the course deal with the practical aspects of using sociolinguistic data/information to evaluate and prepare materials and activities for raising learners’ awareness of cross-cultural differences
Course Content: 

The purposes of this course are to examine the social context in which the language is used and to evaluate the different uses of language in society and how they change according to region, social classes and ethnicity. The focus will be on the relation between language teaching and sociolinguistics.
